DEEP BITE (DEEP BITE)
A deep bite is defined as excessive overlap between the upper and lower incisors.
Typically, this overlap is about 2-4 mm, or the upper incisors cover 1/3 of the lower incisor height.
This is the most common malocclusion, almost 20% of children and 13% of adults (according to research conducted by Proffit and Fields 2007).

Mild deep bites usually do not require treatment, unless for cosmetic reasons.
However, a severe deep bite can affect the temporomandibular joint, causing periodontal problems and tooth wear, as well as trauma to the incisor periodontal tissue or interfere with chewing function.
In orthodontics, there are many different methods to correct deep bite, such as brackets, aligners or removable appliances…
However, any treatment must be carefully prescribed based on the cause and indirect factors.
