Oral Care and Important Tips During Orthodontic Treatment with Braces
Food Trapping + Bad Breath
FOOD TRAPPING + BAD BREATH
A common concern for many people!!!
Are you currently undergoing orthodontic treatment (wearing braces) or planning to correct your misaligned teeth?
BUT you are worried that improper brushing, food getting stuck around brackets and archwires, might cause “unpleasant” breath — affecting your confidence when communicating with clients, friends, or your partner?
You may not yet know the correct brushing technique while wearing braces, or how to properly use orthodontic hygiene tools such as interdental brushes, dental floss, water flossers, or orthodontic wax.
Below are the 4 correct brushing steps for patients with braces:
-
Tilt the toothbrush at a 45-degree angle and gently brush ABOVE the brackets from back to front.
-
Tilt the toothbrush at a 45-degree angle and gently brush BELOW the brackets from back to front.
-
Hold the toothbrush vertically and brush the chewing surfaces of the back teeth.
-
Tilt the toothbrush 45 degrees toward the inner side and thoroughly clean the inner surfaces from back to front.
Important Notes:
-Use a regular manual toothbrush with soft bristles (approximately 0.01 mm diameter).
-Brush three teeth at a time using gentle vibrating motions (avoid aggressive horizontal scrubbing, as it may damage enamel).
-Recommended brushing time for patients with braces is 4 minutes (compared to the usual 2 minutes).
